Irritum develops next gen game engine for Strike Games

November 2009 I got involved with the upcoming US based company Strike Games. Strike aims to release mind boggling games and to date two games are on the drawing board to be released within a few years, The first game is planned for release somewhere at the end of 2010 or beginning of 2011.

To support the quite unique set of technical prerequisites for the games it was decided to develop a completely new and unique game engine. I am currently designing and implementing the first version of this engine.

My US colleagues are at this time creating tons and tons of concepts, art and props and, in general, designing the fascinating world that will be Strike's gamescape.

Later this year these two efforts will come together in the official start of Strike Games and, a few months later, the release of our first game.

At this moment in time I can not divulge anything about the games or the engine. Information about Strike Games and the upcoming games will be published via www.strikegames.net. We will also use various social media to help you connect with Strike.

Soon I will create a specific information/resource site for the engine.

I can however give away the following sneak preview fact on the engine:

  • The design of the engine is not program language specific and is easily ported but we initially go for Java as the primary platform (Java 7 and higher, but currently running on Java 6). So this engine incarnation will run everywhere and is naturally predestined to take full advantage of distributed computing, The Internet as a gaming platform and parallelization provided by current and future multicore processors.
